 | Food: Hamura Saimin |
Folks just love this funky old plantation-style diner. Locals and tourists stream in and out all day long and neighbor islanders stop in on their way to the airport to pick up take-out orders for friends and family back home. Saimin is the big draw. Each day the Hiraoka family dishes up about 1.000 bowls of steaming broth and homemade noodles topped with a variety of garnishes. At Hamura Saimin we love the barbecued chicken and meat sticks which adopt a smoky flavor during grilling. Hamura Saimin is a landmark eatery also famous for its liliko'i (passion fruit) chiffon pie. As one of the few island eateries open until 11 PM on week nights and midnight on weekends, Hamura Saimin is favored by night owls. Hamura Saimin is located in Lihue on the island of Kauai.
