Aloha
Welcome to the official mainlander's guide to Kauai website.
This site was created to help people who are not familiar with Kauai find many places and things to do. We started this website to help travelers save their precious vacation time by putting everything that is needed in one easy to use and convenient place. Every time we go somewhere, someone from the mainland stops us and asks, "can you tell me where..." So, this website is for visitors on Kauai who would like a little help and friendly advice. Here you will find all of the information you will need. We will let you know how things work here, and give you info about things you might not have even thought of. We tried to include everything we could think of to make your vacation as organized and pleasant as possible. On our site, on the left hand side of the screen, you will find a menu laid out in the following manner:
| | |
 | | Things to do on Kauai - In this section we have put together a collection of things to do. For instance, you can take a tour of the island with Alex Taxi and Tours, or take a tour of the island on the water. You can take a cocktail cruise with Captain Andy, or a whale watching tour with Blue Dolphin Tours. You could be planning your wedding, and if you need to find a place on Kauai that will rent you two horses for your beach wedding, we will direct you towards Silver Falls Ranch. You will want to check the “Things to do” area for things like a great spa on The North face, or which helicopter service you should use. One thing that will get your motor running of course is to rent a Harley Davidson from Kauai Harley for a week, and let your freak flag fly! If you are not up to a big hog, how about a little moped? The “Things to do” while on Kauai also covers the most fun you can have in, on, or next to the water. Snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and kayaking are just a few of the things that are covered in this section. After you are finished snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving, or kayaking, you may want to know which beach is best to swim on, or which one you can lay down at and enjoy the peace. If you need to buy a swimsuit, or even a little bikini, go to our “Where to” section. If you think that a bikini is not something that you would not be comfortable in, you also need to know how to pick out a sarong. Finding the things you want and need on Kauai are all activities that you can do in stead of just going to the gift shop. Oh, and in the “Things to do” section is a list of spas and golf courses, which are things you should try while you are here if that is your idea of fun. |
| Sights to see on Kauai - This is a section which contains the natural wonders of the Island of Kauai. Just like the rest of the world, where there are 7 wonders, Kauai also has its own 7 wonders. We will help you plan your day, and tell you the things that the tour books don't tell you. You should definitely go to Waimea Canyon, which Mark Twain named "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” You should bring snacks and water with you because there won’t be a place to get anything once you start on your way up. Then it is 7.5 miles up, and I do mean up. Then you will finally get a great view of the falls. So, you get a 2 for 1 sale - Pu'u Ka Falls and Pele's Lookout. Pu’u Ka Falls is a 150 foot waterfall, and wonder #2 is Pele’s Lookout. From Pele’s Lookout you are able to see the awesome falls. So, you can’t have one without the other. Next, if you continue up the road, you will find "The wettest place on the planet", which is wonder #3. But once again, the tour books do not tell you that the wettest place on the planet comes with a 20 degree drop in temperature, and is fogged in most of the day. Still, the only way to see on land, wonder #4, The Napili Coast, is by a good half of a day hike. We have the trip planned out for you, and where the other fun things are to do along the way. | | |
 | | Where to on Kauai - This section will help you find places like where to shop on Kauai and where to eat on Kauai. There are many price ranges as far as restaurants on Kauai are concerned. Gaylord’s, which is top of the line fine dinning on Kauai, is represented in this section. But if you would like steak, then there are two places I would like to recommend instead. The first would be The Bull Shed, and the second would be The Kalaheo Steak House. These are top of the line restaurants also. If you are looking at having a nice and casual dinner, then you might want to go to Brennecke's Beach Broiler or to Duke's Canoe Club. The local’s have another kind of eating which they call grinds. To try some “local grinds”, there are bunches of places to eat like Camp House Grill, Dani's Restaurant, Eggbert's or Lihue Barbecue Inn. There are a few that can be a little deceiving from the outside. They do not look like what you are going to find inside, like Lemongrass Grill, Tidepools, Tomkats Grille and Wrangler's Steakhouse.
Where to stay on Kauai - Little do visitors know, but we do have a few places to stay that are under $100.00 per night. A couple of these places I am speaking of include Motel Lani and The Kauai Palms. Please note that these places to stay are not The Grand Hyatt. Well, neither is The Grand Hyatt because they changed their name. So, we have listed all the Hotels, Motels, and the bed and breakfasts on Kauai like Aunty Donna's. The problem that sometimes happens is that a person falls in love with Kauai. If this happens, this person will need to know where to buy a house on Kauai, or rent a condo for a month each year on Kauai.
We are here to help you find the perfect gift, peace of art, and who can forget, where to buy jewelry on Kauai? We have also put a few things like where to go for a horse back ride, or where to golf, and where to buy clothes on Kauai. You will find repeats on this site occasionally because some people may not think of shopping as a thing to do, but some would. So, in areas like “Sites to see” on Kauai, we also have overlaps because while visiting Waimea Canyon, we will tell you which places to eat along the way. Other overlaps in the “Where to” section, are such things as where to see whales. However, that would also be found under Whale Watching Tours under “Things to do”, and “Sights to see.” This might seem a bit redundant, but better safe than sorry. |
Technology - We added this section because on the little Island of Kauai, it is hard to find where to do some things based around technology. So, let's get some of the facts out of the way! There are NO technology stores on the Island of Kauai. No Best Buy, No CompUSA, No CDW. Our best place to buy technology, sad to say, is Wal-mart. But with this in mind, we find that we should help the visitors with a couple of facts about technology. For instance, how to empty the digital card that is in that new digital camera you bought just for this trip, and how to get the digital pictures to look their best. We have not only given you general digital camera tips, but we have also given you some places that you will want to go for photos while you are here. There are also very detailed descriptions of when you should go to these places, where you should stand and when to watch your step. We give you some samples, and this is the only area where we sell some stuff. We sell a waterproof bag for your camera which you can even take swimming, and you should even be able to play around in the water. We also sell for a very small amount, printed postcards online. If you find this site helpful, this is how we intend to pay for its upkeep.
This month’s hot product review is a soft waterproof camera case for a Nikon D70. Coming soon is a hard waterproof camera case for a Nikon D70. Check them out, you will be surprised.
We have a new Hawaiian Hook company in Hawaii. If you would like to take a look to find great Hawaiian Hooks you can see them at http://www.hawaiianhooks.info/ Every week we are going to be adding new things to the site. So, you should stop back often, and please feel free to write us to ask any questions. We do not have an FAQ yet, but once we start getting questions we will be happy to post them. The e-mail is gbrown@geeks-in-paradise.com
